In 1972, a Serbian flight attendant called Vesna Vulović was travelling on a plane when it was accidentally shot down by Czech authorities. Vulović wasn’t supposed to be on the aircraft, as the airport mixed her up with another flight attendant with the same first name. Remarkably, she survived both the explosion and the fall. She fell 10,160 metres (33,333 feet) and suffered two broken legs, crushed vertebrae, a fractured skull and temporary paralysis. When she woke up from her 27 day coma, she was awarded with the Guinness World Record for surviving the highest fall without a parachute.
